at the boston convention center. i talked to a top campaign aide, he said they were feeling confident. they like what they're seeing in their internal polls. now it's just all about which of these candidates' supporters are most intense and most enthusiastic and how many of them are going to turn out to vote today. >> jan crawford, thank you. president obama made his last campaign stops monday in wisconsin, ohio, and iowa. and after his final rally in des moines, the president spent the night in his hometown of chicago. nancy is there. good morning. >> reporter: the president is waking up in his own townhouse th morning, and unlike governor romney, he is staying put. no campaign stops. he'll play a traditional pickup basketball game with friends and aides, maybe drop by obama campaign headquarters to thank all of his staffers and volunteers. then tonight he will head to this convention center for what he hopes will be a victory party. on a clear, chilly night, president obama joined 20,000 supporters at the same corner in downtown des moines where he opened a small campaign office back in 2007.

flurries right there. it's all moving to the east. it's still nasty around the cape and also boston, getting strong winds this morning. look at these snow totals. greenwich, connecticut, 6". over 4.5" at central park. jfk. parts of new jersey freehold and manchester around a foot of snow has occurred with this storm. really incredible considering the time of year. so far today highest wind gusts in new york city is 36. we still have gusts out at martha's vineyard over 60 miles per hour. that's where it looks like the worst weather is at this time. overall it's gradually going to be moving out by tomorrow morning. >> is there any good weather news? >> for once i would like to talk to you charlie, without something swirling behind me there. there is good news. for the weekend it's going to be much warmer. temperatures might even be a bit above normal. and see something we see a lot here, sunshine. >>> mark strassmann made it to new york's laguardia airport. good morning. >> lots of canceled flights and with good reason. i flew in ahead of the storm. right through the w

in are going out to other areas like long island up to connecticut and over to boston. that's what bob bashard, the executive vice president said, the few barges that are coming in today, that's where that gasoline is headed. but the big problem continues to be power. back to you guys. >> major power companies struggle to try to get back online, to get these terminals able to deliver gasoline to the exact lines. that's the critical issue, as you say. getting these tankers into the port is one thing, but getting the gasoline or getting the oil there, getting it refined, and then getting it to the stations remains the biggest challenge. >> reporter: i did also talk to one regional group in terms that deals with a lot of gas stations here. they have been working to bring up generators. some of the terminals are trying to work on generators but it's not going to give them as much power as they would normally have to have normal operations and bringing up fuel tankers in terms of truckloads of gasoline is helping, but that's certainly not what we normally get in terms of volume of what we would see

people. there is miami, florida. there's boston, massachusetts. there's the san francisco bay area. there is seattle, up in washington state. there's san diego. there's tampa, florida in the st. petersburg area. there's baltimore, maryland. there's the virginia beach area, that metro area including norfolk. there is jacksonville, florida. and, of course, there is new orleans. so pop quiz. what do all of these large american cities have in common? you can cheat by looking at this map. what do all of these large american population centers have in common? the answer is that all of these major american cities are right on the edge of america. right on the coastal edge, up next to the sea. now, you could also add even some more major cities to this list if you wanted to. places like philadelphia or washington, d.c. or houston or providence, rhode island. those are all sort of coastal cities, too, in the sense that they are near the coast and they're on waterways. just for the sake of argument, let's not even include those. let's just be narrowly focused here, talking narrowly about big

27 minutes at 11:30. we'll start with the markets. art hogan joins us from boston. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> is this what you expected? china pmi decent. not sure if people expected 1% out of that. >> it's interesting. we've seen an improvement over the last month or so in the economic ad calendar across the board. while that's happening, we're seeing real sloppy earnings season. the contradictions here are loud and clear. what i think we're seeing, the fact we went from june to september. since then, we're getting back about 4% on the s&p, about 6.2% on the nasdaq. we've had a bit of a correction into this earnings season and didn't expect better than expected numbers out of china for sure, but the consistency out of the improvement was catching everybody by surprise and probably portends something for tomorrow's job numbers. >> given the fact that not every trading desk is fully staffed, who know what is d order flow is like given what's normal. that niese numbers at the dow, even the s&p's may not be accurate, relative to sentiment? >> it's interesting that you

degrees up in albany and 35 in boston. we'll rebound a little bit over the next couple days. generally speaking at or slightly below average with temps getting back into the 50s for friday and saturday. back in the 40s on sunday. daytime highs, 50 in chicago, san francisco 66, 44 in denver, 62 in san cass city. the weather map fairly quiet outside of this disturbance that's rolling across parts of the carolinas. it will be mild and quiet across parts of the central plainsant pacific northwest. getting into a sloppy pattern there if you're traveling to portland or seattle. this is the time of year, the next couple of weeks are typically the wettest of the season and in a pretty wet spot. bring along the umbrella and rain gear if you're heading up towards portland or seattle, san francisco looks to be nice but rather cool. that's the latest from here, guys, you are looking dry in the big apple but a fall crisp in the air for sure. >> indeed. we will agree with that. thank you so much, rob. >> 44 monz after the hour right now. >>> ace is high. i love this story. the two men who grabbed on
